LINCOLNSHIRE CHRONICLE April 26th 1890 CAISTOR - Alteration of Petty Sessions Area - Caistor, Nettleton, North Kelsey, Grasby, Clixby, Gt. Limber and Keelby have been taken from Brigg Petty Sessions district and with other parishes formed into a separate division, with Headquarters at Caistor. The justices acting in the new division are Lord Yarborough, Mr J M Richardson, and the Reverends J F Quirk, H C Brewster and G Maule.
LINCOLNSHIRE CHRONICLE September 26th 1890 BRIGG PETTY SESSIONS - Grasby - Daniel King, of Grasby, was summoned for having assaulted William Thomas Brumpton, of the same place, by striking him on the face. The defendant pleaded provocation stating that complainant first tried to trip him up. The expenses being very heavy, the Magistrates imposed a very light fine viz. 1d and 22/- costs.
LINCOLNSHIRE CHRONICLE October 17th 1890 BRIGG - Incendiarism - At the Police Court on Tuesday before the Rev T Field, George Thompson and George Marsh, tramps, were charged with having maliciously and feloniously set fire to a straw stack at Searby, the property of Mr W H Coates, farmer, on the 4th of September. At the time of the fire suspicion fell upon the prisoners, who were seen close to the place a few minutes before the fire was discovered. They were subsequently arrested and charged with arson, but dismissed for lack of evidence. They were, however, committed to prison for 1 month on a charge for having broken out of Union Workhouse at Caistor. After being liberated from goal, they were seen begging at Walesby, near Market Rasen, on Friday last, and Thompson was apprehended by PC Hunt, to whom he made a confession that it was he who set fire to the stack, and that Marsh was with him. He did it for "devilment". Thompson, at Market Rasen Police Station, wrote out a statement to the effect that the went to shelter under the stack, and , after drinking some beer they found in the stackyard, Thompson struck a match to light his pipe, and then set fire to (Continued on page 88)
